HIGH RADIATION CAMERAS

Overview

Modern cameras use CCD or CMOS imager sensors. As with most modern electronics these sensors have a silicone base. Gamma radiation can destroy these silicone sensors in minutes if in close proximity to the radiation source. To avoid this, our high radiation cameras use tube technology.  Yes, the same kind of tube technology from decades ago!  In fact, the Chalnicon tubes we use in our cameras were first used in the early ’70s. The Chalnicon tubes were praised for their “extremely high sensitivity, low dark current and good spectral response for visible light”. Our high radiation cameras are made for Lights Camera Action, LLC in the UK to our high standards and specifications.

RH-300

Do you need the best high radiation camera in the industry?  If so, the RH-300 is the camera for you. When radiation is high and space is limited, the RH-300 is the tool of choice.  The compact RH-300 high radiation camera can withstand dose rates greater than 1 x 106 Rad/hr and a total dose rate greater than 2 x 108 Rad.

But it’s not all brawn. The RH-300’s all-magnetic Chalnicon tube provides excellent resolution, freedom from image burn-in, and good sensitivity over a wide spectral range. A 9mm fixed focus lens permits a diameter of only 1.34″ while a 3:1 zoom lens has a diameter of only 1.57″ and produces over 700 TVL of resolution. A tube-beam current stabilizer automatically compensates as the cathode emission diminishes with age, eliminating the need for regular adjustment. The modular construction of the internal assemblies allows for easy removal for repair or replacement of components. The RH-300 works in harmony with the CCU-300 controller.

IR-400

The internal components of the IR-400 camera are identical to the RH-400 high radiation camera, which provides a total dose rate of 2 x 107. However, what makes the IR-400 unique is the interchangeable glass lens that has a total dose rate of 1 x 105, giving it an “Intermediate Radiation Tolerance” classification. When the total dose limit has been exceeded, exchanging the glass lens is an easy and cost effective way to extend the life of the camera. The IR-400 is designed to provide high quality video and superior performance over an extended period of time. The exterior housing is designed to allow for easy access into the internal cavity and components, making performing field maintenance painless. Like the RH-300 and the RH-400, the tube beam current stabilizer design virtually eliminates the need for regular readjustment during the long operating life of the system. The voltage and wave forms required by the camera to operate are controlled by a separate Camera Control Unit (CCU). The CCU may control the Focus, Iris, Auto/Main Gain, Zoom, Pan & Tilt, Lights, Genlock and two (2) BNC Video Outputs depending on your application.

RH-400

Whether you need to inspect the lower internals or find an FME, the compact RH-400 series high radiation camera is your tool of choice. At the heart of the RH-400 is an all-magnetic Chalnicon tube which provides excellent resolution and freedom from image burn-in. A tube beam current stabilizer automatically compensates as the cathode emission diminishes with age, eliminating the need for regular adjustment. The modular construction of the internal assemblies allows for easy removal for repair or replacement of components. The RH-400 is multiplexed, which means there are only four conductors used to control the zoom lens, the internal or external LED lights and provide power to the camera. RH-400C – Color Camera

The RH-400C high radiation color camera system uses a special control unit in conjunction with a high-powered LED illuminator to provide color pictures from a high radiation monochrome camera. The camera functions best in relatively low levels of ambient light, however good results are obtained in bright conditions up to 850 lux.
